The Joshua tree was the 5th album that was released by the band U2 in the year 1987. The band has experimented with a lot of alternative rock, blues, folk rock and gospel music.
The lyrics of the songs in this album are all praise for the beautiful landscape of America but they condemn the foreign policies that are being implements by the USA on other countries.

With the release of the album the band was propelled from the stature of heroes to superstars. The album was one of the best selling albums of that time having sold over 25 million copies worldwide.

Why the album “The Joshua Tree” came about?
After the album The Unforgettable fire was released the band was hit with a stark realization that they had no sort of tradition in the way they played and put forth their songs to the public. It was at this time that they started experimenting with the blues, folk rock and gospel music. Time spent with fellow Irish bands encouraged the band to try out the new music implementing American folk music.

Recording, production and some of their best singles
The recording was carried out from June to November 1986 at windmill lane studios in Dublin. Though the band interrupted their album sessions in the year 1986 to join AI tour they found out that they had not made a bad choice as the tour helped them to work on their music and bring it out in a stronger way. On their travels they saw the hand of distress in the way of life of the peasants in Central America.

The interference of the US army in the affairs of Salvador angered some of the members and was the base of the song “BULLET THE SKY”. The song “Mothers of the Disappeared” was a tribute to the mothers of those people who had opposed the hand of the videla and the galteiri coup d’?tat that overtook the Argentinean Govt. in 1976.
The album though it criticizes the US in a subtle way it also praises the country for its vast and beautiful landscape. The music of the band for this album was basically based on the vast open areas and countryside that stood for freedom. The album was inspired more by the country’s scenery that by its people.
Where the streets have no name this song was conceived by guitarist The Edge. It told about how one could determine the income of a person on the basis of his religion and the place where he lived in Belfast. The recordings continued till November 1986.

Release:
The album was released on 9th march 1987. The album photo which was a Joshua tree was taken by a Dutch photographer Anton Corbijn in the Death Valley in California. The main theme behind the photo was: man and environment, the Irish in America.
The album The Joshua Tree won for U2 their first two awards when it was named as the “album of the year” and “the best rock performance by duo or group with vocal”

Rock band u2 was formed in Dublin in the year 1976. the main stars of this 1980 era band are Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr..
The band has been traveling across the world staging live shows and concerts, however all the money they earn from these shows does not go into their pockets. The band has been highlighting human rights since the outset and money from their shows is donated for note worthy causes.

The following charities are supported by U2:

46664
This is charity that is run by Nelson Mandela and it aims to provide information and help to those who are suffering from the AIDS/HIV virus. The charity highlights the necessary precautions and information through unique music performances.

Make poverty history
This organization stresses on the need for making poverty an issue of the past. The organization through it campaigns pressurizes world leaders to take a look at their economies and take decisions to eradicate the issue of poverty.

Live 8
This organization stresses on adoption, foster care, orphans, AIDS and poverty. This organization has been instrumental in getting together world leaders to finance their projects on AIDS, which deal with care of orphans suffering from AIDS and access to AIDS drugs.

Amnesty International (AI)
This is an international organization that clamors its voices to stop internationally acclaimed acts of violence.

DATA (debt, AIDS, trade, Africa)
This organization is headed by Bono and aims at ridding Africa of AIDS and poverty. It also aims at establishing an improved trade flow with other countries.

Mencap
This organization works with children suffering from learning disabilities. The basic endeavor of this organization is to end the discrimination and prejudice and provide services to such people.

Greenpeace
This organization as we know deals with factors and issues that are harmful to our environment.

Holly rod foundation
The holly rod foundation extends its services to those who are suffering from health problems like Parkinson’s disease.
To provide donations to the above mentioned charities U2 holds live concerts and shows. During these shows some of the best seats are auctioned and the proceeds thus garnered are sent towards charity needs.

Thus the band U2 has been seen at the fore front of various humanitarian issues living up to the saying “sharing is caring”.
For U2, charity is a very integral part of their very existence. They support many charities, and lend their support continuously. In fact, when it comes to charity, you’ll always hear about U2. In fact, the band has been credited at many functions for their charitable nature. They enjoy a very global reputation and are keen on charity shows to raise money through music. This is a true case of genuine help unlike many others who pledge their support just once and aren’t actively involved. U2 not only donates money but voices their support actively and spreads awareness in their quest to get people to take notice, and donate generously. They aren’t just popular in Europe, and have reached out wholeheartedly for support in Africa.

U2 has set a new record in ticket sales. This record has simply thrilled the band’s ever increasing fan base and we are sure any fan of the band would be happier to hear this news. The band has successfully sold a collective of 650,000 tickets for their upcoming concert. To add more goodness to this already amazing news is the fact that the band has sold off all the 650, 000 tickets all under a time span of seven hours. Thus this socially active band has created an absolutely new record and is currently enjoying every moment of this new record that they haves set. The band U2 have completely swept off the record set by none other than Michael Jackson in the same category.

The band never gave time to the great Michael Jackson to celebrate his new record of ticket sales. He recently had a record with his London O2 residency. Jackson would surely had no reasons to celebrate since U2 who on Friday that is 20th of March successfully managed to shift a total of 650,000 tickets. This ticket sale was meant for their U2 360 tour. This record in ticket sales was achieved in a total of seven hours. This record is stupefying and stands at an average sale of 112 tickets per second.

The band later came to know about their success story regarding the ticket sales and the news that the band had collectively sold-out both the Croke Park shows was relayed to the band mates by Gerry Ryan who represents 2fm. U2 frontman Bono later commented that the entire situation was overwhelming and that the band would like to thank their strong fan base. Bono also added that the entire incident was a very big deal for the band. He also said that to be able to sell-out all the tickets within such a small san of time at the band’s hometown at such an incredible speed were simply unbelievable.

As per Gavin Friday of 2fm insecurity can be one’s best security and that’s what precisely 2fm is and they don’t take anything for granted. U2’s latest album topped the charts and was number one in a total of 31 countries. However, the album wasn’t number one in Finland which in turn got the company down.

Playing a concert in Dublin for the band wouldn’t even be a musical event it would be more like a tribal event or rather a sociological experiment just like a wedding is. The band is looking forward to this show and hopes that the strong fan base that they command in their hometown would surely support them. Coming back to Bono, he insists that U2360 would not be too much choreographed as it’s a rock concert. However the stage has been created in a way so that the band can get closer to the audience and the fans can also get to touch their favorite band. The ticket sales record adds another feather in U2’s illustrious cap.

U2 is a popular band and the fans of the band would most definitely like to check them out live. Now you need to prepare to get yourself U2 concert tickets and the U2 ticket on-sales are starting really soon. This entire situation is both exciting and scary. Exciting as because the fans would be able to see their favorite band live and scary as their just might be a dearth of tickets and all the fans might not be able to get them. Getting your hands on those precious U2 tickets is not at all an easy task however the hard work that you do more than justifies the toil you go through to get them. There are a few steps that you need to follow so as to get a U2 ticket. These steps should ensure you to get a U2 concert ticket. They are:-

Firstly you need to join up at U2.com and the paid members of this site are granted an “access to a subscriber only ticket pre-sale.” You need to be aware that the first U2.com pre-sale regarding the Vertigo Tour was a disaster. However, the involvement of U2 so as to fix what was wrong and also the pre-sale for the 3rd leg of the tour was a grand success. You can also ask a neighbor or a co-worker to pay for the account and get their help to get the tickets during the pre-sale.

The second step asks you to be with the fellow U2 fans through the usage of mailing lists and message boards. You can also use various available social networking sites. The U2 mailing list also grants the fans to sell as well as trade tickets at face value only.

Thirdly, if you plan to buy tickets in-person, try to find ticket outlets in the smaller cities where there are shorter lines and alternately you can also utilize Ticketmaster’s web site so as to look for the locations in advance.

Fourthly you simply have to scout for the lines from an early period. By doing this you can actually secure your chances of getting the concert tickets much before the other people. You can also call up on Spokane Ticketmaster number and you can also call up on the remote phone lines within a couple of days and tell them what you would like.

The fifth step involves you to set up the phone or the PC on an earlier basis in case you wish to buy the tickets through either of these aforementioned mediums. You can also bookmark the necessary web pages so that next time onwards you need to search frantically for them. You should also have a plan to use a series of web browsers so as to facilitate your chances of buying a ticket through online methods.

Next you can create a Ticketmaster account at free of charge and save up all your personal info in that system thus you would be having a quicker access to your tickets. You also need to regularly update your information and be ready.

It seems that activism and the band U2 simply go hand in hand. The band’s active participation in a number of social causes has earned them with an even bigger fan base.
The band has been active when it comes to social causes from the early 80s and each and every member of U2 has had a tendency to collaborate with several other musicians and artists. The U2 members have also come together with several celebrities as well as with politicians in order to address the issues that concern major social issues like poverty, disease as well as social injustice. The year 1984 saw Bono as well as the band’s bassist Adam Clayton participate in the now famous Band Aid Concert so as to raise money for the victims of the Ethiopian famine in the same year. This particular initiative has been able to produce the very famous charity single called “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” This single would later go on to become the first among a series of multiple collaborations that happened between U2 and Bob Geldof. In the month of July 1985, the band went on to play a concert called Live Aid. Live Aid was simply a follow-up to U2’s Band Aid’s efforts.U2 frontman Bono along with wife Ali later were invited by World Vision. Soon the couple visited Ethiopia where they witnessed the disasters of famine on a first hand basis.
In 1986 U2 participated in the concert that was entitled “A Conspiracy of Hope” tour so as to support the Amnesty International and in Self Aid for the Irish unemployment and later that year, Bono and his wife Ali Hewson visited places like Nicaragua and El Salvador where they were invited by the Sanctuary movement and saw the disastrous effects of the El Salvador Civil War. Such 1986 events have greatly influenced U2’s album The Joshua Tree.

Around 6 years later in the year 1992, U2 also took part in the “Stop Sellafield” concert with Greenpeace while they were touring for the Zoo TV. There were many events in Sarajevo when the Bosnian war was happening and this incident has inspired the song “Miss Sarajevo”. This was later premiered at a September 1995 Pavarotti and Friends show. The band much later played in Sarajevo as a part of promise made in 1993 and the band played at the year 1997’s PopMart Tour. In the year 1998, the band performed in the Belfast days before the vote on the Good Friday Agreement took place.

In 2001, the band also made a dedication of the “Walk On” to the famous pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and around more than a couple of years in the late 2003, Bono along with fellow band mate the Edge took part in the South Africa HIV/AIDS awareness. The band as well as the manager Paul McGuinness were both awarded Amnesty International’s Ambassador of Conscience Award as a part of gratitude for their work for human rights. They have received a lot of support for their social work.

The band’s official website that is U2.com has announced the today confirmation that the U2 360 Degree Tour. The U2 360 Degree Tour opens in Barcelona at the famous Nou Camp Stadium. The U2 360 Degree Tour starts in Barcelona on the 30th June this year. The U2 360 Degree Tour is sponsored by the famous BlackBerry Company. The U2 360 Degree Tour happens to be the band’s first ever stadium album for a while. To be more specific this is the band’s first ever outing since they released the album entitled Vertigo and went on to the Vertigo Tour in the year 2005-06. This outing entitled the U2 360 Degree Tour aptly follows the release of their much acclaimed album, called the No Line on the Horizon.
As per as the news of their current album is concerned, the band has already topped the charts with the album, No Line on the Horizon. The album has topped charts all through the world including nations like UK, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, France, Finland and Japan as well as in the Czech Republic.

The Live Nation Global Touring is producing this particular special concert of the band and the concert will be held in a total of 14 cities all across Europe including places like Gothenburg, Milan, Amsterdam, Dublin, Paris, Nice, Chorzow, Berlin and in Gelsenkirchen along with other European cities like London, Sheffield and Glasgow. The tour finishes at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on the 22nd of August. The European tour will then be followed by tours in North America starting with Chicago’s Soldier Field on the 12th of September 12th in 2009.

As per as the band’s frontman Bono he has spoken to the Rolling Stone magazine and the stage for the concert is being set up as an engineering monstrosity that would successfully create a real physical closeness to the crowd. This means that the stage for the concert is being set in such a way that the band would be closer to the audience and fans. U2’s 360° Tour page lets you check out all the virtual blueprints of the concert and there would also be a 360° TV screen that would be hovering over the entire stage allowing the whole stadium to have a great view of the band performing. The band would be performing in the center of the field.

The good news about this special tour is the fact that the prices of the tickets would be ket low. This bit of amazing information has been got from the band’s frontman Bono as he said the same to the legendary Rolling Stone magazine. U2 also aims to keep the ticket prices down for the entire tour. According to the band’s manager Paul McGuinness the European pricing of this tour would be different. He adds that U2 has always been comfortable and has performed their best when they were surrounded by the audience and this concert showcases that feature of the band. When it’s U2 you’re talking about, you can always expect more.

An advert at school can be hailed the primary reason for the coming together of U2. These were the early days of the band. Initially the band had a total of 9 members and it cottoned onto the name “FEEDBACK”. However after the first practice the band members dwindled down to 7 members as two of the initial members left. In the year 1977 the band renamed itself “THE HYPE” and it was at this crucial time that Dik Evans was phased out as he was too old for the band.

The first breakthrough for the band came in the year 1978 when the amateur band first took part in a concert where that won L500 and a funding to record a demo album. It was at this juncture the band took on the name U2.

Their first demo tape was recorded in Keystone studios on Harcourt Street in Dublin. Their first album which was released was only for the Irish markets and they failed to rally audiences or gain any feedback from critics.

Their rise to fame and popularity started when Island studios roped in the band to perform in March 1980. Little by little, they managed to build a reputation and the turning point in their lives came when one of their renditions, “The Jam” became a hit. At that time, their music was more about energy and expression and had less to do with creating great music. Their eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth album combined techno music, rock music and electronic music. By the year 2005 the band had amassed a total of around 22 Grammys.
Lead vocalist, Bono, admits that most of the other songs too were written with a view to capture the mental conflict of the protagonist. Each song had a story to tell and the same has been achieved effectively in the lyrics, music and video created for the “No Line on the Horizon”. In its entirety, this album also captures the essence of U2’s long journey and the various transformations they have achieved in their lifetime.

While most of U2 creations have generic similarities, the band has not failed in offering something entirely new to their fans in each of their new releases. Albums released by U2 during their formative years appear to have been inspired by creations of other bands such as the Television and Joy Division. Most tracks in these albums oozed “spirited exhilaration”, resulting from the distinctive tones of Edge’s guitar works and the larger-than-life vocals done by Bono. As a band, U2 has gone from strength to strength over the years. What’s really amazing is the fact that the band has stuck together through their failure and success and not disintegrated under pressure or because success got to their head like we’ve seen with so many other bands. That’s one very strong reason why people look up to U2. Then again there’s that fascination for all the experience they have, and their ability to never fade away into obscurity.
