U2: Top 10 songs

As we know, U2 the band was formed in Dublin in the year 1976 when Larry Muller Jr. put up a notice on his schools notice board seeking musicians for the formation of band. Initially the bands work only consisted of cover versions before they went onto punk music.

It all started with Larry Mullen posting an ad on the notice board of Dublin’s Temple Mount School. The ad read – “musicians wanted”, and U2 was formed soon after in 1978 when Adam Clayton and other band members such as Bono, responded to the advert. Displaying great interest in music from an early age, Adam Clayton started practicing with the acoustic guitar when he was just 13. Later on he requested his parents to buy him a bass guitar, which he said sounded a lot better and was a lot more satisfying. Read the rest of this entry »

From the very beginning, U2 appears to have successfully created and sustained a distinctive musical style, with special focus on soulful instrumentals and expressive, meaningful lyrics. To a certain extent, the musical style used in most U2 creations can be attributed to the conditioning band members gained while they worked with record producer, Steve Lilywhite. This was during their formative years, when they were not known for their genius and had just started honing their musical and vocal skills.

After nearly five years since their last big hit, U2’s fans have a lot to cheer about with the release of “No Line on the Horizon”. The long gap however, may not be all that surprising since U2’s history has always been characterized by significant gestation periods between their successive releases. Since 1976, U2 has released just twelve studio albums, with four of them coming in the first five years. It says a lot about U2’s efforts to create soulful music that has managed to touch many million hearts worldwide.
