U2 Biography

The band comprises of Bono on lead vocals and guitar, The Edge is the guitarist and is also on keyboards, Adam Clayton is the bassist and Larry Mullen, Jr. is the drummer. The band was formed way back in the year 1976 when all the members were in their teens and by the mid-1980s U2 acquired the status of a top international act and they came to be known for their anthemic sound.
U2’s sound is defined primarily by Bono’s passionate vocals and The Edge’s excellent guitar playing. They tasted international success with their album The Joshua Tree that was released in the year 1987. U2 have so far sold more than 145 million albums throughout the world and enjoy a huge and assorted fan following. U2 have gone on to win a total of 22 Grammy Awards and this is like a record as this is more than any other band in the world. In the year 2005, the band was finally inducted into the famous and legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on their first year of eligibility.
The world famous Rolling Stone magazine has listed U2 at the 22nd number in its list of 100 all time greatest artists. U2’s success as an awesome live act was way greater than the way they sold records till 1987, when the album ‘Joshua Tree’ elevated them to superstardom as per the legendary to Rolling Stone magazine. U2 have always been a different rock band in the sense that they always have focused on doing something for humanity and have founded several organizations to put forward this idea.

Even as individuals, the U2 band members have immensely campaigned for the cause of human rights as well as for various social justice causes. The social causes that they have campaigned for including the Amnesty International and also the ONE Campaign. Lead vocalist Bono has his own organization called the DATA that is unabbreviated as Debt, AIDS and Trade in Africa campaign.
U2 have always developed and at the same time maintained a very different as well as a unique tone.
