Been listening to U-2 since 1980. The first time I heard them was over the phone in California in that same year... I was a freshman @ SFSU, over at a friends house and my twin brother calls me from Chico State and says, " Listen to this maaaan these guys are rockin maaaaan!...it's U-2".... I listened...... The song was Sunday Bloody Sunday..He held the phone and I listened to the whole song...when it ended he say's to me, "Have ya heard of them?...What do you think ?"... I replied, "Yeah maaannn they rock!"... By the way I just joined a club here @ State ... "Students for a United Ireland"....we gotta check them out when they come to SanFrancisco.....It was right after the October album..I had already snagged a bootleg copy... then it happened...Civic Auditorium 1984. from what I can remember ...definately right after the " U-2 War Album had come out"...My brother & I made a big banner in red lettering just like the album cover... we added the Gealic rally,,,Cead Mile Failte in bright green... "Hundred Thousand Welcomes"... hung it up from the second tier rails directly across from the stage and above the sound mixing crew... One of the sound guys looked up when we were draping down the banner...he points up & yells,"Wait there"...when he comes up...he asks in a thick Irish accent. "Where did ya get the words???... I replied, " Its Gaelic"...he says again kind of irritated yeah.."Where did ya get the words?".... I say, "Well my great grandfather was Irish and so Am I... Maloney's the name"...I extended my hand to shake his and asked him ,"Whats yours?" He replied, "Connor!"..we look eachother square in the eye's... shook hands... high as a kite...the tension eased....I introduced him to my brothers ....we all exchanged hands and parted...we were all excited for the show to begin.....I'll never forget that show as long as I live.... I can remember Bono dislodging a spot light... he kept shining and waving it on the crowd and the banner....who needs 390 tons of lights and display monitors...just bring on the band and tunes...

Come back to the SF Bay Area this year 2009...we are where your real fans are!!!!!

peace,
